NASCAR Fantasy Racing Preview: Air Guard 400 from Richmond International Raceway

The quarter-mile, D-shaped flat track at Richmond International Raceway hosts the final regular season race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. RIR is also important to fantasy owners since it concludes the summer segment for many games.

Chasing the pole at Richmond International Raceway

1. Denny Hamlin… Qualified third in both Richmond starts last year.
2. Jimmie Johnson… Started third in May, fourth last Sept.
3. Martin Truex, Jr…. Started fourth and second last year at Richmond.

Here’s an explanation of the highlighted text in the rankings:

• Y! A/B/C - The top options in the Yahoo! Fantasy Auto Racing game by driver list.
• Value play - Sneaky plays at this week’s track. Drivers to consider as low-rent salary cap options or alternatives in allocation formats.

1. Denny Hamlin… Won 9/09 race at Richmond. Average start of 7.4, average finish of 8.8 in nine career starts, never held an average running position worse than eighth until May. Y!-A1
2. Kyle Busch… Two-time winner (5/10, 5/09) at Richmond, nine Top Fives in 11 career starts at RIR- has never held an average running position worse than 15th. Y!-A2
