Mad Max Papis Podcast: Part Two
December 5, 2008
I got a chance to moderate a teleconference for Geico Racing with their new Cup Series driver Max Papis the week before the Homestead-Miami Speedway finale to the 2008 Sprint Cup Series.
As things worked out, Max wasn’t able to get the Geico Camry qualified for Germain Racing this time. They’ll have to wait for the 2009 Daytona 500 now.
I actually had three different opportunities to talk to Papis over a couple week period between his and Germain Racing’s first attempt to at a Cup Race at Texas Motor Speedway and the latest interview you can hear right here. Part one of this interview featured questions from Luke of the Thunder Lounge. This time, Matt Mercer of the Catfish Show and Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie gets in the act. Listen up.

Championship Week ON PIT ROW
December 4, 2008
Who do you think made Jimmie Johnson feel more uncomfortable this season - the New York NASCAR fan in this picture or Carl Edwards? Where’s Chad Knaus when you really need him?
If you want more pics from Jimmie’s Week – which NASCAR still insists on calling Champions Week - go on over to Full Throttle. Marc is running a series of the daily shots of Jimmie and Chandra, Jimmie and Chad, Jimmie and a cab – you get the idea. It’s Jimmie’s week.
Jimmie’s…er, Champions Week winds up with the big Sprint Cup Awards Banquet, which is televised every year, to the delite of your intrepid ON PIT ROW Pit Crew. We love the Awards Show. Just like we loved the classic 60′s Sci-Fi flick, Plan Nine from Outer Space. We love it so much that we started a tradition a couple years ago of getting together and making fun of what is usually the worst two hours of television programming you’ll ever see.
That tradition continues this Friday at 9 PM ET. Yep, we’re gonna live blog the 2008 Sprint Cup Awards Show. We hope you’ll tune in the show and join us on the web. We’re gonna hoot it up. BethAnne has some special content saved up just for the live blog presentaion and we should be joined by some of the best NASCAR writers found anywhere.
OnPitRow.com’s other big news this week is the first appearance of the Pit Road Toad cartoon series, drawn and written by the very talented Art Almond. Art’s toons will be a regular feature on Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie and we couldn’t be much more excited.

Max Papis’ Geico Racing Teleconference Podcast
December 2, 2008
I’m a Max Papis fan. Have been since I watched him storm through the pits at the Dayton 24 Hours in 1996 at 200 mph. Mad Max.
You already know that Max has been named by Germain Racing as their driver for at least 18 2009 Sprint Cup races in the team’s Geico Toyota Camry.
I had the opportunity to moderate a web-teleconference interview with Max, for Geico’s PR folks. Callers were invited by Geico and they included some sharp guys that OnPitRow.com readers will recognize. The Catfish himself, ,Matt Mercer, Thunder Lounge commander Luke and Bench Racing with Steve and Charlie’s own Chris Leone.
I have broken it up into three parts. Here’s part one.
The Differnce Between Sure Things and WAGs
December 1, 2008
I was actually going to take this space to recap my picks during the recent 2008 Chase for the Sprint Cup. The idea came from a sense of obligation – a need to fess up and face my results. But to rehash those predictions after the fact would be…boring. I did get a few right – Greg Biffle at Dover, Jimmy Johnson at Kansas and Carl Edwards at Homestead.
But I missed on seven. As I’ve said before, follow the advice you find here at your own risk. If you are thinking of doing any actual NASCAR betting you may be better served by finding actual NASCAR odds at a service that is involved in online wagering or something. We, most assuredly, are not.
The sure things at OnPitRow.com are the terrific writing by a staff of dedicated NASCAR observers and some of the easiest contests to win anywhere. In the last month, we’ve given out thirty some Kevin Harvick bobbleheads, courtesy of Shell gasolines, dozens of hats and diecasts and, as of Friday, five copies of A & E Home Video’s new DALE EARNHARDT 10 GREATEST WINS .
My fantasy picks are more than wild guesses. I spend way too much time trying to make the right choices. But if you’re looking for a “lead-pipe cinch”, bet that OnPitRow.com and ON PIT ROW – “the fastest two hours on radio” will have a bunch of new features and more cool stuff to give away as we get closer to Speedweeks.
